Honda Coming On Strong in Korean Market
The sales performance of Japanese carmakers in Korea has improved considerably in recent years, and it is only a matter of time until Honda holds the fifth largest market share in the domestic automobile market after Hyundai, Kia, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong.

In June, Honda Korea sold 1,354 vehicles in the Korean market, closely chasing Ssangyong Motor, which sold 1,902 cars last month. In terms of sales performance by model, a barometer of the profitability and competitiveness of a carmaker, Honda has already surpassed Ssangyong. Honda sold 753 Accords in June, edging out Ssangyong¡¯s bestselling Chairman W, which sold 745. ¡°In the case of Accord, supply has been short this year. But as the sales in the U.S. market declined, we are now able to meet the demands on time by importing cars assembled in Japan for export to the United States to the Korean market,¡± a Honda Korea staffer said Monday.

Industry insiders expect monthly sales of the Honda Accord could exceed the 1,000 mark and the 2,000 mark for Honda¡¯s total sales, a feat that no imported car has achieved yet.
