Ginseng is well-known as a traditional remedy and for its complex growth patterns and needs. But that could change as Korea's Rural Development Administration has come up with a technology that speeds up the root's growth by using hydroponics.
The new technology can cultivate a two-year-sized ginseng root in just four months and requires less space per root so farmers can earn larger profits. Experts say the content of energy-boosting saponin is eight times higher in tank-farmed ginseng than in land-grown varieties. The Rural Development Administration has been awarded a patent for the growing technique.
