Controversy over the MBC current affairs program ¡°PD Diary¡± flared up again after one of the translators who worked on its mad cow disease program claimed staff deliberately distorted important factual evidence. Chung Ji-min (26) said Thursday that in a video clip of an interview with the mother of Aretha Vinson, whom "PD Diary" portrayed as having probably died of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD), the human form of mad cow disease, there is a moment when the mother talks about the possibility that her daughter died of complications from a gastric bypass operation. Chung said ¡°PD Diary¡± never mentioned this, which was a serious problem. The program made by the U.S. local broadcasting company WAVY-TV aired in April, which ¡°PD Diary¡± used as reference, mentioned this possibility. ¡°The ¡®PD Diary¡¯ team was fully aware of these other possibilities. Still they chose to describe Aretha Vinson as someone who died of vCJD,¡± Chung said.
