The International Air Transport Association on Monday awarded Incheon International Airport the 2008 Eagle Award, given to airports and air navigation service providers that offer the best value and service to airlines.
The air transport organization, which represents more than 240 airlines worldwide, first began awarding the prize in 1998.
The award confirms Incheon International's reputation as one of East Asia's premiere hubs, having been named the "Best Airport Worldwide" for a third consecutive year in the Airports Council International's Airport Service Quality Awards in April.
International airlines, which are struggling to make ends meet amid soaring oil prices, praised the airport for a series of business-friendly measures, including lowering rents and airport facilities and landing fees by 10 to 20 percent until 2010.
Thanks to such measures, Korean carriers Korean Air and Asiana Airlines expect to save up to W63.6 billion (US1$ = W1,030) over three years, and foreign airlines up to W34.8 billion.
