President Lee Myung-bak and Russia's new president Dmitry Medvedev have agreed to work together to resolve nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Such intentions were shared over a 15-minute phone conversation Tuesday during which President Lee also voiced hopes for stronger bilateral economic cooperation with Russia.

The Russian leader for his part spoke of hopes to meet with his Korean counterpart in the near future.

The two presidents are set to meet at the G-8 summit on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido this July.
