Voters believed the Chosun Ilbo delivered the most factual and objective reporting during the last presidential election campaign.
In a survey released by the Korea Press Foundation on Thursday, the Chosun Ilbo received the highest ratings for "accurate, factual reports" (29.9 percent), "objective reporting without subjective comments" (24.2 percent), and "quantitatively balanced distribution of reporting among candidates" (24.9 percent).
The Hankyoreh Shinmun received the highest rating (27.5 percent) for "reporting of important issues."
The KPF conducted the survey to analyze media usage during the last presidential election by 772 voters aged 19 or more in Seoul on three occasions, through questionnaires and telephone interviews, from September until right after election day.
The communication channel that influenced voters most was TV reporting (28 percent), followed by TV debates (18.3 percent), newspaper reporting (17 percent), and voters' conversations with their acquaintances (15.4 percent).
On a credibility scale of 0-5, broadcasters scored the most with 3.4 points, followed by cable TV (3.3 points), newspapers (3.2), portal sites (3.1), and online newspapers (3.0).
