Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Chung Jong-hwan has downplayed any possibility of scrapping so-called "innovation city" plans pursued under the former Roh Moo-hyun administration.
Whether to continue with the construction of innovation cities has generated a lot of controversy after the Board of Audit and Inspection announced Monday that the former government overstated the economic benefits of the plans.
The government initiative is moving about 170 public agencies and state-run firms to 10 new towns across the country. The land minister's comments suggest the current administration may reshape the development scheme but it will generally remain intact.
