Samsung Chief Facing More Questions
Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee was to be summoned again for questioning by the team of special counsel Cho Joon-woong on Friday. The team probing the corruption scandal on Thursday said it will question Lee again at 2 p.m. on Friday to investigate suspicions regarding the conglomerate's alleged slush funds and borrowed-name accounts where the money was hidden.

When they first interrogated Lee on April 4, investigators said they had no plan to summon him again. But on Thursday they said they will have to question him again to ˇ°supplement their investigation.ˇ± Investigators plan to question Lee to find out whether the conglomerate evaded taxes on the trillions of won worth of stocks and cash (US$1=W976) stashed in accounts under borrowed names of Samsung staff, and whether funds were funneled into these accounts from some Samsung subsidiaries.

Investigators on Thursday also raided Samsung Electronics' file depository and computer center in Taepyeongro, Seoul. An investigator said, "We received a search and seizure warrant to obtain Samsung Electronics' confidential files related to the slush funds and borrowed-name accounts."

Meanwhile, the team says it has evidence that some W10 billion were funneled into the accounts from Samsung Electronics, and has been investigating whether this constitutes embezzlement.
