Court Orders Sex Offender¡¯s Details Published
The Seoul Southern District Court has sentenced a man who raped an elementary school girl to seven years in prison. The court also ordered his personal information made public.

It is the first court order to reveal the personal information of a child rapist since a new law to protect juveniles from sex crimes in February. The bench said the 76-year-old man raped another young girl although he had already served 10 months in prison two years ago on charges of raping an underage girl.

On the afternoon of Feb. 11, the man identified as Jeon saw the victim walking on street in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. He enticed the mentally disabled girl to his house and raped her there. If the ruling is upheld, Jeon¡¯s personal information and criminal record will be available at police stations to parents and school authorities who live in the same area when his prison term ends. However, they cannot print out or copy the information, which includes his photo, name, age, address, job, workplace and sex crime record. The information will be accessible for five years and be kept for another five years after the disclosure order expires.
