Lee Kun-hee, the 66-year-old Samsung Group chairman, returned home around 1 a.m. on Saturday after being questioned by the team of special counsel Cho Joon-woong for some 11 hours. He appeared at the team's office in Hannam-dong, Seoul on Friday afternoon, where he was questioned about the suspected underhand transfer of Samsung Group control to his son, the raising of slush funds, and bribery of politicians and senior officials.
Investigators wanted to find discover if Lee ordered convertible bonds in Samsung¡¯s quasi-holding firm Everland to be sold to his son Jae-yong at a dump price in 1996. They also sought to discover where exactly the money stashed away under dozens of borrowed-name accounts came from and what it was for. Returning home early Saturday morning, Lee promised ¡°humbly to accept the findings of the special counsel's inquiry¡± and do his best to make sure that such a thing never happens again. ¡°Everything is my responsibility," he added. Asked if he admitted responsibility for all allegations, Lee said, "Not 100 percent; it depends ..." But he dodged a question which specific responsibility he bore.
