The Japanese government expects a ˇ°new eraˇ± in ties with Korea, according to the Diplomatic Blue Book 2008 released on Tuesday. The prediction is based on a pledge by Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and President Lee Myung-bak shortly after Lee took office in February.

The Blue Book was submitted by Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura to the Cabinet, which approved it. On Japan's relations with North Korea, the blue book said, "There has been no concrete progress in pending issues, including the issue of abductions by North Korea." It promises to seek ˇ°a solution to the abduction issue through Tokyo-Pyongyang dialogue, while maintaining close cooperation with the participating countries in the six-party nuclear talks."
