Korea to Step Up Inspections of Imported Food Products
The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries ordered the National Veterinary Research Quarantine Service to strengthen quarantine inspections on a variety of Italian buffalo mozzarella cheese, which were said to contain unacceptable levels of dioxin. The ministry also ordered provincial governments to halt the sale of the products in question.

According to the ministry, Korea imported 10 tons of buffalo mozzarella this year. Dioxin is a poisonous substance produced when garbage and plastic goods are burned that causes cancer and birth defects.
