Lee Calls for Opening of Gov't Jobs to Foreigners
President Lee Myung-bak on Saturday said officials in the era of globalization Korea can ˇ°open more government jobs to foreigners than any other country in the world.ˇ± He called on officials in the age of globalization ˇ°to accept talented people in more various ways.ˇ± He made the remarks in a joint interview with the Maeil Business Newspaper, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the China Economic Daily and the Financial Times.

Lee suggested boosting the competitiveness of the government ˇ°by recruiting talented foreigners in investment, trade, industrial development, education, culture and urban planning, which are not so directly related to national security and state secrets."

Turning to his North Korea policy, Lee said the government ˇ°will continue humanitarian aid to the North without linking it with the nuclear issue. But we hope that North Korea too will give humanitarian consideration to the repatriation of the South Korean prisoners of war and about 400 fishermen abducted by the North."

As for the planned formation of a single Korean team for the Beijing Olympics in August, he said, "We're positively thinking about participating in the Olympics as a single unified team or sending a single cheerleader squad. It totally depends on what choice the North makes."
