Come April 7, all 25 district offices in capital Seoul will be able to issue passports. The service up to now has been provided at only 18 of the city's ward offices.
Surrounding Gyeonggi Province will also be expanding its passport services throughout April and by the end of next month will be offering it in all 31 cities and counties.
Officials say the expansion of issuance sites is in line with upcoming changes to Korean passports. From the latter half of this year current passports will no longer be issued, replaced by state-of-the-art electronic passports embedded with computer chips.
