Korea's First Air Taxi Service Given Green Light
Hanseo Aerospace is to launch an air taxi service after winning an air operator's certificate from the Ministry of Land and Maritime Affairs for the operation of a chartered plane rental service. The charter fee will be around W2 million (US$1=W948) an hour. The company will first employ one 18-seat Beechcraft-1900D turboprop. Meeting customers' demand to move from a specific airport to another on their own schedule, it will be the first air taxi service here.

Korean Air rents a 14-seat Gulf Stream-IV for W4 million per hour, but Hanseo is the first company to specialize in charter plane rental. A spokesman for the company predicted that businesspeople and entertainers will use the service as a fast means of transport. Hanseo Aerospace is a joint venture between Hanseo University and a private company. With its own runway and hangar in Taean, South Chungcheong Province, Hanseo is engaged in helicopter operation, pilot training and plane maintenance.
