Americans Rank N.Korea 2nd Least Favorite Nation

N.Korea Remains on U.S. Terror Sponsor List
North Korea ranked second on a list of Americans' least favored nations, while South Korea ranked ninth on the list of their most favored.

In a new Gallup survey of Americans' most and least favored nations, 12 percent of respondents saw North Korea favorably, while 82 percent viewed it unfavorably.

North Korea's net favorable rating was -70, making it the second least favored of 22 nations rated in the survey. Iran topped the least favored list with a net favorable rating of -80.

They were followed by the Palestinian Authority (-61), Iraq (-57), Afghanistan (-52), Pakistan (-50), Cuba (-40), Saudi Arabia (-30), Venezuela (-13), and China (-13).

Younger Americans tended to view North Korea more favorably than older Americans. Some 17 percent of respondents aged 18 to 34 said they liked North Korea, almost double the percentage of respondents 55 or older who said the same (9 percent).

This was one of the "noteworthy differences" that the survey found among Americans of differing generations and political parties, Gallup said in an analysis of the survey results on its website on Monday.

South Korea ranked ninth on the list of Americans' favorite nations. Sixty percent of respondents viewed South Korea favorably, while 31 percent viewed it unfavorably, resulting in a net favorable rating of +29. South Korea was not rated in last year's survey.

Canada topped the list as Americans' most favored nation, with a net favorable rating of +86. Canada was followed by the UK (+82), Germany (+69), Japan (+65), and Israel (+46).

The telephone survey was conducted among 1,007 Americans on Feb. 11-14.
