Concert Marks 3rd Flying of U.S. Flag in N.Korea
The U.S. national flag flew in North Korea for a third time in two years when the New York Philharmonic gave a landmark performance in Pyongyang on Tuesday.

The "Stars and Stripes" had been hoisted in the communist country in June and October 2005 at boxing matches between North Korean and American women.

Park Se-jun, a PR marketing director at PyengHwa Group, said that the U.S. national anthem was played and a U.S. flag was flown in North Korea for the bouts on June 28 and October 21 of 2005.

As the PR director of the Korea Boxing Commission (KBC), Park oversaw preparations for the WBC Female World Championship boxing matches held at the Ryugyong Jong Ju Yong Indoor Stadium in Pyongyang.

In the matches, which were reported in South Korea, North Korean fighters Choi Eun-soon and Ryu Myung-ok squared off against Americans Yvonne Caples and Alicia Ashley.

The KBC helped North Korea prepare for the international competitions by providing international boxing rules. It also persuaded the North to have the U.S. national anthem played and the Stars and Stripes flown on its soil. Park said that 13,000 spectators remained standing while the U.S. national anthem was played at the matches.
