Largest Expenditure in Education in 2007
A recent survey of the Korea National Statistical Office unveiled that Koreans are spending more on education, dining out and transportation.

According to the 2007 Korea society index by the NSO released Thursday, Koreans spent around 12 percent of their total income in the education sector.

This is a growth five times over from the first study done 24 years ago.

Last year's expenditure in transportation and communication was 17.2 percent of total income and dining out 11.8 percent. The sum of dining, transportation, communication and education marks more than one third of Koreans' total expenditure.

Additionally, last year's Engel's coefficient, the proportion of money spent on groceries, was 25.1 percent.
