President Bush has urged the U.S. Congress to pass several bills, including controversial surveillance legislation that allows the U.S. government to monitor communications in connection with terrorism investigations.
Speaking at the White House Thursday, Mr. Bush told reporters Congress needs to quickly pass the bill or the United States will be faced with a dangerous gap in intelligence. He said the bill should protect phone companies from lawsuits stemming from their work with U.S. intelligence officials.
On Iraq, the president called on Congress to pass legislation that would fully fund U.S. troops. He highlighted progress that he said is being made in Iraq since extra troops were sent to the country last year.
In addition, Mr. Bush said Congress needs to pass a bill that would help U.S. homeowners avoid foreclosure.
