Ssangyong Motor, the South Korean unit of China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., launched a new luxury sedan on Wednesday. The Chairman W, featuring a 5-liter engine, the largest in the local market, and a seven-speed transmission, targets Korea's high-end sedan market traditionally dominated by imported cars.
The release of the Chairman W, just about a month after the launch of the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan, is expected to intensify the competition between Korean automakers and foreign rivals in the rapidly-growing premium car segment.
