Researchers Find Anti-Aging Substance in Frogs
A team of Korean researchers has discovered that bullfrogs, which are considered a nuisance in some ecosystems, produce an antioxidant that can help prevent human skin from aging.

The team, led by professor Kim Se-kwon of the Department of Chemistry at Pukyong National University, said Sunday that it succeeded in obtaining an antioxidant from the skin of bullfrogs which is effective in removing free radicals.

The team's findings were published in the international academic journal Bioresource Technology.

Free radicals are molecules that can damage cells and DNA in the human body. They are believed to cause diseases and hasten the aging process through oxidization.

According to the results of the team's study, adding the material from the bullfrogs to the wall of human cells reduces the effects of oxidization by up to 73 percent.

The team said that the newly found material is 10 percent better in curbing oxidization than tocopherol, which is widely used as an antioxidant in medicines and health supplements.
