The Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry has built a situation room at its headquarters. The ministry says the new facility will be used to strengthen its response to emergency situations at home and abroad though overseas conference calls cannot be made just yet.
The first phase of construction is complete and the next phase will include installing video conferencing technology. The project comes amid an increase in kidnappings of Korean nationals overseas in recent years.
