Koreans used more plastic than ever to settle financial transactions last year. Over 10 million transactions were made in a single day using credit and debit cards in 2007, marking a record high, the Bank of Korea says.
In money terms that's roughly W1 trillion (US$1=W948), up ten percent from 2006. Transactions using check or debit cards in particular saw the highest increase, rising 55 percent.
The central bank attributes this rise to the fact that it is much easier to acquire check or debit cards. Unlike credit cards all it takes to get them is to open a bank account.
