The Korea Sports Council has announced it has chosen Koo Ahn-sook as its new secretary general.
The 53-year-old Koo will be the first female officer for the position when the council meeting officially approves her appointment, likely in March.
Koo had worked for various positions in finance at home and abroad before she became Korea's first female executive vice president for Kookmin Bank.
Koo also has been a member of the Korea Olympic Committee since 2005.
The sports council which oversees Korea's national sports teams expects the new secretary general will boost marketing of Korean sports using her experience as a business professional.
