Regular freight train service between the two Koreas will resume on Tuesday after a break of 56 years. The service from Munsan in South Korea to Bongdong across the border will be the first regular rail link since service from Seoul to Kaesong was suspended in June 1951.
The freight train is slated to leave Munsan Station at 6:20 a.m., carrying boundary stones for road construction and raw materials for shoes to the Kaesong Industrial Complex.
After going through Customs at Dorasan, the train is scheduled to cross the military demarcation line at 8:30 a.m. and arrive at Panmun Station just north of the border ten minutes later. Though the first day's journey will take more than two hours, the usual journey time should be no more than 20 minutes.
On its way back to the South, the train will depart Panmun Station at 11:50 a.m. carrying shoes, underwear and hydraulic cylinders produced in the Kaesong complex and arrive at Seoul via Dorasan and Munsan.
The train will operate every day except on weekends, leaving Dorasan at 9 a.m. and heading home from Panmun at 2 p.m. Panmun will be the last stop until Bondong Station near the Kaesong complex is completed around three years from now.
The two Koreas conducted a test run of the inter-Korean railroad in May.
