Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Wendy Cutler has urged the U.S. Congress to speed up ratification of the free trade agreement between Korea and the U.S.
At a lecture Tuesday hosted by a Washington-based economic think tank Cutler said it is crucial for Congress to ratify the free trade deal since failure to do so could cause the U.S. to lose credibility and might affect future trade with Asian countries.
Meanwhile U.S. Democrats have expressed unease with the pact in areas such as labor rights and the environment. Also under dispute are the auto sector and U.S. beef imports.
