Kim Jong-il's Second Son Gets Key Politburo Post
The eldest son of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-nam (36), has been spotted in Paris earlier this month. Japan¡¯s Fuji TV aired a video clip on Tuesday in which a plump man it said was Kim Jong-nam left a luxurious hotel near the Champs Elysees and walked to a limousine. Dodging questions with a smile, Kim said in fluent French, "I just went to the dentist and I can't talk much. I'm sorry." Asked about his linguistic skill, Kim answered, ¡°Everyone knows I studied in Europe.¡± Asked whether he has a friend in Paris, he said, ¡°It would be disrespect to my friend if I talked about the person.¡±

When the Fuji TV crew asked about the issue of Japanese citizens kidnapped by North Korea in the 1970s and 80s, Kim got into the limousine without another word. The network said the clip was made earlier this month and Kim had stayed in Paris for a week. Wearing a suit, Kim looked neater than the last time he was sighted by Fuji TV, in Beijing in February. He has been in the international spotlight since in 2001, when he was expelled from Japan for trying to enter the country on a forged Dominican Republic passport issued in a Chinese name.
