Prosecutors Vow to Speed Up Probe of Lee's Ex-Partner
Prosecutors on Tuesday vowed to speed up the investigation on Kim Kyung-joon, the convicted ex-business partner of Grand National Party presidential candidate Lee Myung-bak, and conclude the case before Nov. 25, when the presidential candidates must register with the National Election Commission. If they come to no conclusion by then, however, they are expected to postpone the investigation until after the presidential election.

Lee¡¯s ex-business partner, who is wanted on stock price-fixing and embezzlement charges in a scandal that could yet engulf Lee himself, will be extradited to Korea from the U.S. in the middle of this month. A senior prosecutor said prosecutors will do their best to conclude the case before the due date ¡°to minimize the impact on the presidential election.¡± The United New Democratic Party has been arguing that Lee is involved and UNDP has filed charges against Lee for violating the Securities Trading Act.

Prosecutor have formed a special team to handle the investigation. Kim Hong-il of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said, ¡°Prosecutors believe the most important thing is to bring out the truth by investigating the incident thoroughly and rapidly.¡±
