Three women drafted as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during World War II will testify for the first time about their suffering before the European Parliament and urge the EU to adopt a resolution against Japan¡¯s wartime enslavement of women from neighboring Asian countries. The witnesses are Gil Won-ok from Korea, Ellen van der Ploeg from the Netherlands and Menen Castillo from the Philippines.
They will testify in Brussels on Tuesday afternoon and call on the parliament to adopt a resolution urging Japan to officially apologize for its conscription of so-called comfort women for the Imperial Army and pay compensation to victims.

The event is part of Amnesty International¡¯s campaign Stop Violence Against Women.
The three also delivered an open letter calling for a resolution to the Dutch Parliament in The Hague on Friday and staged a protest in front of the Japanese Embassy in the city.
They will fly to Berlin and London on Thursday and Nov. 12 and visit parliaments and humanitarian organizations there to raise awareness of the atrocity.
