Samsung Electronics has regained the top position in sales of LCD and PDP TVs in North America in the third quarter. DisplaySearch, a market researcher, said that Korea's largest electronics maker snagged 11.8 percent of the region's overall flat-panel market during the July-September period, overtaking the previous quarter's leader Vizio.
Vizio, a U.S. company, dropped to second place with a market share of 10.2 percent, followed by Japan's Sharp (10 percent) and Sony (8.6 percent).
In the second quarter Vizio led the market with a 12 percent share, followed by Samsung (11.4 percent), Sharp (8 percent), Japan's Funai (6.9 percent) and Sony (5.5 percent).
Sharp was the LCD TV sales leader with an 11.3 percent market share in the third quarter, followed by Vizio (10.9 percent), Samsung Electronics (10.7 percent), Sony (9.7 percent), and Funai (8.1 percent). In the PDP TV market, Panasonic was the leader with a 30 percent market share, followed by Samsung Electronics with 19.8 percent and LG Electronics with 13.7 percent.
