Vietnamese President Urges Support for Brides in Korea
Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet has asked Korea to help Vietnamese women who have married Korean men better integrate into Korean society. The president made the remarks at a ceremony to formally accept the credentials of Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Im Hong-jae.

"As Korea has become the largest investor in Vietnam, the Korean people should regard the Vietnamese as brothers and have a closer relationship with Vietnam," President Triet said. He urged the Korean government and people to safeguard Vietnamese brides and help them integrate into Korean society.

Pham The Duyet, president of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, made similar remarks to the Korean ambassador at an event to hand over aid for Vietnamese flood victims. Koreans should pay more attention to Vietnamese in Korean society, he told Ambassador Im.

Relations between Korea and Vietnam are making remarkable progress. However, concerns about the treatment of Vietnamese in Korea were raised after the deaths of two young Vietnamese brides at the hands of their Korean husbands.

"The Korean government is enacting laws to protect Vietnamese brides, and the Korean Embassy will launch a movement to promote friendship and brotherhood between Koreans and Vietnamese," Ambassador Im said.
