One in 10 university students does not read even one book a month, a survey by the University News Network has found. In the September survey of 2,000 university students nationwide, 11.5 percent of respondents said they read no books, and 24 percent said they read less than a book a month. Some 25 percent read two books a month.
When asked how they spend their leisure time, 24.2 percent said surfing the Internet. Watching movies was the next most leisure activity with 21 percent, and reading books was third with 16.1 percent.
In regards to another popular pastime, 51.6 percent said that sex before marriage was acceptable if the couple is in love and 10.5 percent said it's fine without any conditions attached. Only 12.1 percent disapproved of it.
As to living together before marriage, 18.1 percent disapproved, while over 80 percent approved. Of those, 41.3 percent said that it's acceptable if the couple plans to tie the knot, 33 percent said it's fine if the two are in love and 7.6 percent said it's fine with no conditions attached.
The survey also found that a majority of university students don't believe in the unification of the two Koreas. Some 53 percent said it depends on the situation and 26 percent said there is no need to hurry, while 9.1 percent said the South and the North should be united as soon as possible.
