Sony has joined hands with KT for its latest advance into Korea. At the 2007 Korea Electronics Show (KES), Sony Korea and KT launched an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service for Sony's PlayStation 3 game console.
Sony Korea also unveiled new products including an 11-inch OLED (organic light emitting diode) TV, considered the next big thing in displays. The last time Sony participated in the KES was in 2001.
"With our new IPTV service, Sony will introduce a new lifestyle in which people can view, record, edit and enjoy full-HD (high definition) content such as games and movies," Masao Morita, Sony's senior vice president, said at the KES.
Yoon Yeo-eul, president of Sony Korea, said, "By combining electronic devices, services and content such as games, movies and music, Sony is pursuing a unified strategy that only Sony can provide."
Yun Jong-yong, Samsung Electronics¡¯ vice chairman, and Nam Yong, LG Electronics' vice chairman and CEO, dropped by the Sony booth at the show and showed keen interest in the company's OLED TV and Bravia LCD TVs.
Sony recently launched an aggressive campaign in Korea's large-screen TV market with the introduction of eight new models including the high-end Bravia full-HD LCD TV X series and W series.
