Samsung’s new mobile phone D880 DuoS, which takes two SIM cards. Samsung will debut the phone aiming at Russia and CIS markets.

Samsung Electronics announced on Sunday that it will introduce the D880 DuoS mobile phone, which includes two SIM card slots, to attract users in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), including Russia, starting November. With the DuoS slider, users can install two different numbers in one phone. The total number of mobile phone subscribers in Russia as of March this year was 155 million, more than the entire population of 142 million. Some 60 percent have more than two phones, partly because users want to separate their private life from their work life and also because different providers offer different options.

The DuoS slider “is a highly customized and value-added product targeting dual phone holders,” Samsung Electronics Russia said. “We expect about 1 million sales with more than US$200 million in revenues next year as we are the first global firm to enter the highly potential dual mobile phone market.” The D880 DuoS phone is slated for a launch in November and will be priced at US$550, 22 percent more than the previous SGH-600 model with single SIM card.
