Grand National Party presidential candidate Lee Myung-bak will meet with U.S. President George W. Bush during his four-day stay in the U.S. that starts Oct. 14.
This is according to Kang Young-woo, a policy advisor of the National Council on Disability of the U.S. White House.
"Melissa Bennett, deputy assistant to the President for appointments and scheduling, has confirmed that candidate Lee's meeting with President Bush will be realized on either Oct. 15 or 16," Kang said in a telephone interview with the Chosun Ilbo.
Kang had been pushing for the meeting since late August at Lee's request. He said he was helped by former U.S. Attorney General Richard Thornburgh and U.S. Secretary of Labour Elaine Chao.
This will be the first case of a South Korean opposition candidate meeting with an incumbent U.S. president.
