Roh Vows to Create Jobs During Inter-Korean Summit

President Roh Moo-hyun on Thursday said during the second inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang on Oct. 2-4, the two sides will agree on developing an industrial complex and a port in the North. He made the remark at a ground-breaking ceremony for an ¡°innovation city¡± in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province on Thursday. "I'm visiting the North soon,¡¯ he said. ¡°And I¡¯m going to create many jobs for the Korea Land Corporation and the Korea Expressway Corporation. I think there'll also be a lot of jobs for the construction of a port."

He said the Korea Land Corporation, which is in charge of laying infrastructure for the innovation city, will ¡°have a lot of work in the future.¡± Roh has previously said the summit would lay groundwork for building an inter-Korean economic community. But this was the first time he mentioned a concrete sector or project. An official with the Unification Ministry later said, "It¡¯s true that talks are underway on building a second industrial complex, though smaller in scale than the existing one¡± in the North Korean border town of Kaesong.
