People in need of emergency medical services during the Chuseok holidays can dial 1339 to get help from the Emergency Medical Information Center. Staff at the center will direct callers to the nearest medical facility according to the patient's symptoms, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said on Wednesday. People who need medications can find a pharmacy that's open during the holidays on a special webpage (www.pharm114.or.kr).

The ministry ordered 440 emergency medical organizations and general hospitals nationwide to operate round the clock and place doctors on duty during Chuseok.

In the case of a large-scale disaster, the National Emergency Medical Center and emergency facilities in 16 provinces will form a team of emergency responders.

To ensure children from low income families also enjoy the holidays, municipal and local governments are providing free meals and meal tickets for rice and rice cakes. Currently, 220,000 children are fed by public welfare centers nationwide.
