Belly Is the Beast for Korean Women
When it comes to judging their own appearance, most Korean women are more concerned about their tummies than they are with their faces and thighs, a survey has found.

According to a survey of 3,500 women at a cosmetics fair by the Korea Cosmetic Association, the majority at 27 percent said they fret most about their tummies. The next most important body part was the face at 16 percent, followed by the thighs, forearms, waist, calves, hips, sides and neck.

As for skin troubles, enlarged pores and wrinkles were their biggest distress. Next were liver spots, freckles and dark circles under the eyes, according to the survey results released Tuesday.

More than 90 percent of respondents use skin toner and moisturizer, and six out of ten apply additional cosmetics including cream, sun-block and eye cream. An official from the KCA said, "Paradoxically, Korean women use more kinds of cosmetics than foreign women do in order to be seen as wearing no makeup at all."

The survey also found that 72 percent of respondents spend W30,000 (US$1=W930) or more each monthly on cosmetics, and half spend ten minutes or less applying makeup every day.
