In order to achieve per-capita income of US$30,000, Korean businesspeople say Korea should follow Japan's model of powerhouse manufacturing and Dubai's model of innovation.

In a survey of 153 businesspeople by the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry, 27 percent of respondents said Korea should style itself on Japan and Dubai to join the $30,000 club.

Other examples cited by respondents include the Netherlands, the U.S. and Sweden. The respondents said Japan is a manufacturing powerhouse, Dubai is an innovative country and the Netherlands is a small but powerful nation.

They also said that Korea should learn from America's neo-liberalism and Sweden's welfare state policies.

As the most urgent task to achieve per capita income of $30,000, 50.3 percent of respondents said Korea needs to acquire an economic locomotive to drive growth.

Others suggested deregulation, the creation of a business-friendly environment, political stability and the establishment of state leadership.
