International reports say that 19 Koreans held captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan will be released in a couple of days. Sunday was the 39th day since they were kidnapped. On Saturday, the Afghan Islamic Press quoted reliable sources as saying Korean negotiators reached agreement on the release of the 19 hostages with the Taliban on conditions that Korea will pull out troops stationed in the war-ravaged country in the coming weeks and order all Korean evangelical missionaries home from the staunchly Islamic country. Dubai¡¯s Gulf News said while the two sides have not yet reached agreement, they were expected to do so in the next few days and final face-to-face negotiations will be held soon. However, Cheong Wa Dae and the Foreign Ministry were more cautious, saying Sunday that no agreement for the release of the Korean hostages was officially confirmed and they appealed for patience.
