Difficult negotiations lie ahead this week in the second round of free trade talks between Korea and the European Union as the two sides prepare for several contentious issues such as cars, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Korean negotiators led by Deputy Trade Minister Kim Han-soo will hold a five-day meeting in Brussels from Monday with their counterparts headed by Trade Relations Director Ignacio Garcia Bercero.
They are expected to focus on discussing details of pending areas seeking to tear down trade barriers in services, investments and regulatory issues.
When and if the trade deal is signed Korea and the EU will enjoy a hefty boost in bilateral trade currently valued at about US$80 billion.
