The prices of D-Ram and NAND flash chips, Korean chipmakers' flagship products, are on the rise.

According to DRAM Exchange, the world's largest online chip marketplace, the contract price of NAND flash has soared by up to 30 percent over the past 15 days.

NAND 4-Gb MLC chips are trading at US$5.18, up 30 percent over the price announced on June 22. NAND 4-Gb SLC jumped 18 percent to $6.03.

A contract price is set when chipmakers and PC manufacturers sign a long-term, bulk contract.

Contract prices of DRAM chips began improving in June after a long plunge. The contract price of DDR2 512-MB DRam fell from $5.88 early this year to $1.66 in June. But it's back up to $2 this month.

The rise in chip prices is expected to improve the profitability of Korean chipmakers.
