A billionaire who advertised for a son-in-law to adopt as his heir in a recent highly publicized case seems to have sparked something of a craze.

Matchmaking company Sunoo said some 60 wealthy people have asked it to look for sons-in-law who would be adopted as heirs if they meet certain unique conditions since the billionaire made his request on June 7.

A senior official with a financial company who has property worth W5 billion (US$1=W938) but no son is looking for a husband for his daughter who would be prepared to take his wife's surname. A woman with a fortune of W10 billion wants a reliable son-in-law for her only daughter. A billionaire woman is looking for a professional for her daughter who is in the doctorate program of a prestigious university. A self-made millionaire wants a man capable of taking care of the family property and business.

A Sunoo staffer said parents without sons are concerned about finding the right spouse for their daughters. "Most rich parents have no qualms about adopting sons-in-law," the matchmaker said.
