The Seoul Metropolitan Government will develop the areas within the four gates that stood during the Chosun Dynasty into four distinct districts.
The four are the history and culture axis, tourism axis, green area axis and combined cultural axis.
The history and culture axis will include Gyeongbok Palace, and a plaza will be built by early 2009 in the Gwanghwamun area of downtown Seoul.
The tourism axis will be set up in the Myeongdong area to help tourists walk around comfortably.
Trees will be planted in three stages through 2015 in the green area in the eastern part of downtown Seoul.
The combined cultural axis in the Dongdaemun area will be a fashion and live performance venue.
