N.Korea¡¯s Population, Life Expectancy Inch Up
The total population of North Korea as of July 2007 will be 23,301,725 and average life expectancy 71,92 years, according to estimates by the CIA. Men live 69.18 years and women 74.8. As for the South, the population will be 49,044,970, and the average life span 77.23 years --73.81 years for men and 80.93 years for women. The figures come from the latest update of the CIA¡¯s ¡°World Factbook¡± uploaded on Sunday.

4. Busy in the rice fields. Some shopping centers in downtown Pyonyang are closed since staff are mobilized for work in the fields during the rice-panting season. Pyongyang citizens are obliged to go to the countryside and help out in the paddy fields for 40 days a year.

North Korea¡¯s population grew 0.79 percent compared to 23,113,019 last year, and the increase has been steady since 2003. The average life span has also inched up from 70.79 years in 2003. Infant morality decreased from 25.66 deaths out of 1,000 infants in 2003 to 22.56. North Korean women had on average 2.05 children. The CIA estimates North Korea¡¯s economic growth rate at 1 percent and per capita GDP at US$1,800.
