Samsung has captured the lion's share of the worldwide display market for the third straight quarter. According to market researcher DisplaySearch, Samsung's 15.3 percent market share for the first quarter this year was trailed by Dell with 13.7 percent, LG with 10.1 percent, HP with 10 percent and Acer with 7.6 percent.
Samsung attributed its leading performance to increased sales of wide-screen displays. Samsung sold 950,000 units of its 19" wide-screen display, the most for the quarter. The company plans to further secure its hold on the world market by debuting eight new products in the second half of this year. It launched eight new displays in the first half.
Ha Yoon-ho, senior vice president of Samsung's visual display division, said, "Samsung has won the fierce competition with PC makers in the display market for three consecutive quarters. Samsung will widen the gap between second place and remain in first place in total business performance this year."
