Singer PSY has denied charges of irregular attendance during his service in the special military service program, which is an alternative to joining the army. Prosecutors plan to question the singer early next week.
The Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office said Thursday that investigators raided the singer's agency PSY Entertainment and online distance education company "Y," which is run by PSY's uncle, on Wednesday.
A prosecutor told reporters that prosecutors are looking into bank transactions between Y and another IT company "F," which PSY worked for as a special agent through November 2005.
The investigation is aimed at determining if the singer bribed the IT company for his job. PSY will appear at the prosecutors' office early next week after performing a concert in a provincial city this week.
The singer is accused of failing to faithfully fulfill his duties while performing in about 100 concerts during his service period. But PSY denied the accusations, saying he held two concerts and participated in 10 college festivals a year during the period. He claimed that he faithfully worked from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. without missing work during his time in the program.
Meanwhile, prosecutors sought an arrest warrant for a 26-year-old man on charges of working as a private teacher instead of serving as a special agent for an IT company in fulfillment of his military service requirement. He allegedly bribed the owner of the IT firm to skip out on his duties.
