Fans of luxury brands will have been holding their breath: Friday sees the opening of the upscale outlet mall Yeoju Premium Outlets. It offers 120 designer brands including Ferragamo, Coach, Burberry, Zegna, Hugo Boss, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Armani at discounts of 25 to 65 percent. Staffers with the operator say inquiries have been flooding in because the mall is the first suburban outdoor luxury outlet mall in Korea. It consists of two main buildings.

The Chosun Ilbo went for a sneak preview and came back with some tips about smart shopping at Yeoju Premium Outlets.

¡ß Shop when new products come in

Find out when new products come in the shopping mall. If you prefer a specific brand, ask the manager of the brand store when new products are available.

¡ß Take in other places on the way

When you go to Yeoju Premium Outlets from Seoul, take the Youngdong Expressway. There are plenty of places you can drop by and have a good time -- golf courses, and East Sea coast and ski resorts as well as cultural attractions like the Silleuk Temple, World Ceramic Exposition and the house of the Last Empress Myeongseong. Shop to your heart¡¯s content and do something to educate the children as well.

Yeoju Premium Outlets offers various joint programs with local resorts including Phoenix Park, Oak Valley, Miranda Hotel, Icheon Termeden Spa & Resort and Yeoju Spa. Capitalizing on these programs can optimize the shopping trip.

¡ß For young couples

Yeouju Premium Outlets is a great place for young couples to shop for presents for each other for their special days. Jewelry and accessory brands offer wide selection of rings, necklaces and watches for couples. There are stores of accessory and jewelry brands such as Folli Follie, Gallery o'clock, Swarovski, Mosaic, Tasaki Shinju, Golden Dew vivid and Accessorize in building A.

¡ß For golf fans

Golf brand collections are also available in building A, inlcuding Callaway Golf, Ping, Bogner, Dunlop, Nike Golf and Kim Young Joo Golf.

¡ß Refreshments

The mall has a number of chain outlets not usually found this far out of the city, including Crazy Crepe, Freshness Burger, Haagen-Dazs, Il Cipriani, Starbucks Coffee, Steff Hotdog, Sakanaya and Union Square, all in building A.

¡ß Plan ahead

The mall is different from urban shopping malls where escalators are designed to minimize moving distance. So wear comfortable shoes, a bottle of water and a hat. Remember, about 120 brand stores are located in the suburban outdoor setting.

¡ß For foreign tourists

Tourists will like not only the luxury goods but also indigenous products such as Yeoju rice, chinaware, Korean melon and sweet potato. There are outlets for local agricultural and special products near the mall.

¡ß For more comfortable shopping

On holidays and weekends, there are often traffic jams at the Yeoju interchange on Youngdong Expressway. In this case, you can save time by taking local national roads such as No. 42 and 37. Staff with Yeoju Premium Outlets said people in overseas outlets make a point of shopping on weekday mornings to beat the rush.
