Most Foreign Students in China are Korean
There were nearly 57,000 Korean students studying in China at the end of 2006, making Koreans the biggest group of foreign students there, according to Chinese press reports on Tuesday.

According to government statistics cited by the Chinese press, foreign students studying in China as of Dec. 31, 2006 came from 184 countries. There were 162,695 foreigners studying at 519 colleges and schools nationwide.

Some 57,504 were from Korea, almost one-third of the total, followed by 18,363 from Japan, 11,784 from the U.S., 7,310 from Vietnam, and 5,652 from Indonesia.

By major, most of the students, at 114,846, were studying liberal arts including 98,701 majoring in Chinese language and 2,118 majoring in the arts. There were 20,355 students studying medicine -- 13,225 in Western medicine and 7,130 in Chinese medicine -- and 7,308 students studying economics.
