The government has decided to confiscate 254,906 sq.m of land from nine pro-Japanese collaborators who helped Japan annex Korea in 1910.
The nine-member presidential Investigative Commission on Pro-Japanese Collaborators' Property made the unanimous decision on Wednesday. By the government¡¯s official price, the land is valued at W3.6 billion (US$1=W930.)
The land was acquired by the collaborators in return for their cooperation during Japan¡¯s colonial rule of Korea from 1904 to 1945, when Japan was defeated in World War Two and driven off the Korean Peninsula. Land inherited by the families or offspring of the collaborators will also be seized.
